There is a very friendly staff at this atypical luxury hotel: 8 concrete floors and a private beach with a somewhat unfashionable-demode side and a modern one under the sky.
The check-in was nice but first we had a bit disappointing room, with a great view and two small beds, very rare in the USA. Finally, after a discussion they gave us a room at a higher floor with brilliant views, two large beds, table and terrace.
You can go to a perfect bar there, a private beach with beds, chairs, tables and parasols. The restaurant “Manta” is outdoors and serves a great breakfast with sea view.
A plus: at the evening they light spots under the restaurant and this attracts the manta rays that come to feed from plankton… and in addition you can be snorkeling at night with these same manta rays.
We booked our room at the Mauna Kea Beach hotel through Priceline. The beach was fabulous and snorkelling was as well as Hapuna. We stayed there for 5 nights and relaxed very well. The hotel was beautiful and the staff very professional.
The only downside was that despite a spacious bedroom, all the furniture was quite old. Some chests are blocked and the flaps could not all close. The carpet had stains.
Fortunately, the beds were great so we decided that we could support the rest of the room. I am sure that the hotel was extraordinary at the time of its glory but I expected a better place for the price they ask. This hotel should seriously consider a complete renovation.
Anyway, overall, the best golf of the island and a perfect beach: this place is still wonderful.
